RGU University: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) (earlier known as Arunachal University) was established in 1984 It is oldest university in Arunachal Pradesh. Foundation stone was laid by the then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi. Before inception of Rajiv Gandhi University, colleges of Arunachal Pradesh were affiliated to North Eastern Hill University, Shillong. At present, 32 Colleges in Arunachal Pradesh are affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University, including 14 are government degree colleges. RGU has been extending educational facilities to students from neighbouring North eastern states particularly Assam.
