HBTU University: Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU) is State government technical university in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. HBTU was named after Sir Spencer Harcourt Butler, governor of the United Provinces of British India. It is among oldest engineering institutes in country and holds ISO 9001:2000 certification. HBTU is the mother institute of the National Sugar Institute (in 1936, then known as Imperial Institute of Sugar Technology), Government Central Textile Institute (in 1937), now known as the Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute, and the Glass Institute. As of 1 September 2016, it was granted a university status and renamed Harcourt Butler Technical University under HBTU Act, 2016 passed by the Government of Uttar Pradesh
